Summary:

  As for the technology, there is two cores part under our consideration which are organic circuits and pressure sensors. To mimic the real mechanoreceptor, the material and structure of the sensor are carefully chosen. In the research, the team has chosen carbon nanotubes moulded into pyramidal microstructures, which is highly sensitive to force stimulus by better way in tunnelling the signals from the e-field of nearby objects to the receiving electrode. It is special polymer  produced by the inkjet printing from the Xerox company which allows large sheets of flexible electronics to be fabricated in new cost. Other than these, finally, to connect the signal with the brain, ontogenetic is use bridge them together which is the use of the light to control the neutron transmission.

  My opinions:

  For this technology, there are still many obstacles left behind. For the engineers, it is difficult to maintain the stability and the accuracy of the sensation. Besides, different people may has different sensory feeling. If one patient lose one hand only, it is difficult to make an artificial hand with the similar sensory feeling of the original one. Indeed, human sensation is too complicated. There are many sensation feelings, like soft feelings and hot feelings, which cannot computed easily.

No Evidence for the Mental Curing APP

Summary:

Is it work for curing the mental illness by app? Indeed, there is no evidence showing this workable. National Health Service had done a research that examine 6 apps which disclose none of them have the healing ability.As for healthcare app market, it increases twice as the previous year. However, most of them have not been taken the testing or report about these apps. Most of them, indeed, are just a tool for relaxing. For the future, should we set up law for it?

My Opinions:

What is the standard of a healthcare app? Is it strict enough to monitoring them? Here, come to our question. In the internet-world, we all relay on the app, including medical use, shopping. However, we need to set up some law for monitoring the effect. Why? It prevents that misleading the patient in order to allow them to get the real medical action immediately.

Summary:

The new innovation is for helping the patient who are in an emerging case which without doctor. This is a simple app in phone that allow video call to the doctor.It give the immediate scene for the doctor to teaching u how to help the patient. Moreover, it is a another helpful tools for the medical officer preparing the what they need before the patient’s arrival. For the healthcare, it allow the citizens to take some advice when they need the medical officer.

Opinion:

So far, it is a brilliant idea for tackle the emerging case. However, as for the law, it is difficult to deal with the law when their is a people death. Besides, the privacy of the patient is another big problem for it. Other than these, many basic check will be required too, for examples, blood pressure and heart-beating rate. It requires more complicated tasks for us to solve.

The new tools, Kinase Addiction Ranker, can predict which genetic coding are going to driving into the cancer cell. It allows the doctor to introduce the best kinase inhibitor to keep those gene silent. As for the prediction, there is two bioinformatic bank for pairing the genes with the drugs to eliminating the dangerous disease. The first one is for the gene, and then the other one is for the drug. People may ask” Why it require two bank of bioinformatic?”. As to the answer, the bank for drugs is for a safety precautions which give no allowance for the inhibitor for inhibit other genes.

My opinions:

The Kinase Addition Ranker is the front line in the battlefield with cancer. You can Image that there is a super solider which can collect enemies’ data . This action is for helping you to prevent the upcoming enemy, cancer cell. Thanks to the bioinformatic coding, we now can eliminating the dangerous by comparing A,T,C and G. The bank will give you the solution for silence of gene. As for everyone, precaution is forever better than curing. No pain , big gain.

Help for a Paralysed Man

Summary:

Useless, powerless , helpless ,these words, always tell a paralysed man that you are just a rubbish. Is that no hope for them to become back a normal one? imaging that you are paralysed, you properly feel that hope is no longer with you anymore. However, the great neuro-scientists have developed a mind-machine interface to “teach” a paralysed man how to walk. For the theory of the mind-machine, it is simple to measure the encephalogram of the patients’ brain. Through the computer, the computer can translate the signal to messenger for the knee and trigger the controllable muscle activity. This mind-machine without any harmful injection of electrode which is just sticking the electrodes on the skins.

My opinion:

Scientist build the new world for the paralysed man. In the way for inventing this machine, it is difficult to design how to direct and detect the signal of walking. As for a paralysed man , he has already lost the feeling of walking for a long time. It is difficult to define the EEG which is walking EEG. Besides, it is difficult to direct the specialised muscular movement. It is completely different from the robotic rehabilitation because it counts on the patients’ muscles. Signal transferring from brain to computer and back to muscle, is much difficult as the transformation is too complicated.

Opinion:

What is the important of the medical imaging? The importance of if  is for capturing the image of body without the intrusive surgery. Indeed, nowadays, we have already got many good innovation of the medical imaging, for examples, CT, MRI and ultra-sound . Unfortunately, those of them have a great limitation and disadvantage. For looking more clearly, researchers are going to put the EWS states into practice. The EWS states are going to provide a echo-less light for imaging.It allow the doctor reach the inaccessible regions the our body, such as brain. The proposed tech has no radioactive feedback which won’t cause abnormal cell- differentiation after scanning. It is going to bring a new tech- world for medical area.

A New Creature for Imaging – Total-Body PET Scanner

What is the biomedical technology going on?  In these days, scientists and engineers are working together on how perform better imaging in diagnosing diseases. Imaging – a critical technology for diagnosing, is the most helpful technology to investigate what wrong in our body without cut t off. The Berkeley Lab planned to build the first total-body PET scanner. Why we need a total-body PET scanner instead of segment PET scanner? It is obvious that for the better safety for the patient. The total-body PET scanner can reduce the time taken for radioactive scanning in order to reduce the dose of radioactive substance that the patient take.

My opinion:

What is the responsibility of biomedical engineering for the future? In fact, we are as great as the medical officers. We are developing the latest tech to help and relieve the pain of the patient. As for this total-body PET scanner, the focus is to reduce the dose of radioactive substance taken by the patient. The engineers are going to reduce the time from 20 minutes to 30 seconds. As for the aim of medical treatment, it is to prevent and reduce the bad feedback for the patients.

New Innovation for Surgery

Summary:

It is a good news that prostate surgery can be taken under the scanning of the MRI. It is a boon to the patient that surgeons can cut off the abnormal cells carefully on order to reduce the chances of having the same illness. In this innovation, scientists have developed the non-metal apparatus during the surgery. It prevents the disturbance of the MRI based on the magnetic properties of the tools.

My opinion:

As for the patients, we should develop the better tools for them. For the accuracy of curing the abnormal cell, medical imaging is the helpful hands. During the surgery, the surgeons are difficult to detect the abnormal cells by their naked eyes. They should rely on the MRI to take good care of the patient.

The Cancer-Cells’ Detector- Sound Wave

Summary:

Cancer cells – the bigger enemy of human , are now easier to be discover and detected by the doctor which is because the help of biomedical engineers. The application of titled sound wave are going to sort out the cancer cell from the blood cells without any damage of the cell. In the previous time, people use chemical or damaging force to sort out the cell which is not completely reliable. Due to the above, scientist and engineers are plan using sound wave for sorting. However, it requires a long developing path based on one problem – difficult to detect the change of trajectory of cells. Until now, thanks to the titled sound wave, we are much easy to detect the trajectory of cells in order to separate the cells.

My opinion:

It is a great idea for using sound wave to sort out the cells. According to the article, for an example, 71% of breast cancer cells are disclosed mixing up with white blood cells in lab. it is difficult for having a treatment to kill the cancer cell directly without destroy other healthy cell. However, in the coming future, we can sort out different cell due to the difference of the size of cells ,compressibility and density and the angle of the sound waves when passing the microchannel. For treatment of cancer cells, titled sound wave is a milder way to cure patient and release their pain.

New Subsitution for the Lost of Cartilage

Cartilage – the shock absorber between bones, helps reduce the crushing between bones and load of joints. It is consisted of collagen which can no longer be regenerated by our body mechanism. As for a cruel fact, lack of cartiage gives a big problem for our daily living, for instance, poor joint movements and limitation in flexbility. However, a latest research, done by Stefanie A. Sydlik, finds out new biomaterial using in orthopedics. The biomaterials are called graphend and nanotube, which is funky name for chemistry. The properties them are conductive ,with high mechanic strength and auto-biodegrable in our  body into humic acid. With the aid of grapane and nanotube, it is able to repair the lost of cartilage by injecting them under skin.
My respond:

Due to the limitation of the artifical organ, we still cannot repair our cartilage but input a artifical one. However, the latest research is a helpful idea for repairing the diseases about cartilage. Moreover, input of chemical does not cause any religious conflict , sush as, articial organ is a taboo about transcend god. Being a biomedical engineer, we have responsibilties for providing different method to solve one problem. There is not only one way out for a problem.
